There have been plenty of big reunion tours recently featuring major acts from the 1970s and 1980s, but none bigger than the anticipated 2008 tour of the Jackson 5. It’s easy to forget after all these years, but at one time the Jackson 5 was perhaps the most popular music group in the world. In the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s, the Jackson 5 had two dozen Top 40 hits and sold millions and millions of records. And of course the success of the Jackson 5 helped launch the career of Michael Jackson, and at least indirectly, his sister Janet Jackson. Now the rumors are rampant that a Jackson 5 reunion tour is in the works featuring Michael, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon, and perhaps even some special appearances by Janet. That will surely make Jackson 5 tour among the hottest concert tickets of the year.

Originally formed in 1966, the Jackson Five hit it big in 1969, thanks in part to Diana Ross, who recognized their talent early on and helped give the young group their start with the release of their debut album, “Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5.” The first single, “I Want You Back,” was a huge hit, and soon more classics like “ABC” and “I’ll Be There” followed. From there, the Jackson 5 starred in several TV shows, including a variety show and a Saturday morning cartoon, and their image was everywhere from lunch boxes to iron-on decals. Plus they sold millions of Jackson Five concert tickets.

Officially, the Jackson 5 broke up in 1990, but you really have to go back to the mid-1980s for the last time they were actively recording and touring. The 1984 Victory Tour featuring the Jackson brothers was one of the most successful concert tours of all-time, with more than two million concert tickets sold, and a 2008 Jackson 5 world tour could certainly put up similar numbers.
