March 2008: Chicago INNERVIEW hosts South By Southwest showcase in Austin, Texas, at which local bands Indignant, The Sleepers and Black Oil Brothers perform.
December 2007: Chicago INNERVIEW hosts holiday show at leading Chicago music venue Metro featuring Skybox, Company of Thieves, The Young Sea & DJ LA* Jesus. Hundreds attend the event, which serves as a fund-raiser to benefit the local tutoring center 826CHI.
November 2007: With one year to go until the 2008 presidential election, Chicago INNERVIEW expands into political coverage and unleashes its new "Dear Dipshits" monthly political column to cover the election and other topics of interest to its readers.
September 2007: Chicago Innerview celebrates its 4-year anniversary with a special section dedicated to the Hideout Block Party taking place in Wicker Park Sept. 7-8. Thousands rejoice. Chicago Innerview also sponsors The Pygmalion Music Festival which takes place in Champaign-Urbana Sept. 19-22, at which over 70 bands perform at various venues throughout the cities.
July & August 2007: Chicago Innerview once again publishes special festival issues dedicated to Pitchfork Music Fest in July and Lollapalooza in August, at which 200,000 people combined attend the two festivals. Chicago Innerview's coverage & festival guides are expanded due to reader demand, and thousands of magazines are again distributed on site.
February 2007: Chicago Innerview kicks off 2007 "Innerview Spotlight" monthly concert series at Subterranean with co-sponsor Music Industry Workshop featuring Skybox, Ignite the City & Company of Thieves. The event is nearly sold out despite frigid temperatures, and the editor dances on stage in a chicken suit.
January 2007: Chicago Innerview hosts New Year's Eve bash featuring Flosstradamus at a local Chicago loft. The place is packed. The magazine continues to maintain increased monthly circulation of 20,000 copies per month due to consistently surging reader demand and again expands distribution for 2007.
September 2006: Chicago Innerview celebrates its 3-year anniversary with a special issue dedicated to Touch & Go Records' 25th Anniversary Celebration (held in conjunction with the Hideout Block Party) Sept 8-10, which thousands attend. Chicago Innerview also announces further expansion of the publication with the addition of its new "Local View" section, co-sponsored by the Music Industry Workshop.
July & August 2006: Chicago Innerview continues its highly visible presence at major national music festivals by dedicating its July issue to serving as the festival guide to Pitchfork Music Fest (held in Chicago's Union Park) and by dedicating its August issue to comprehensive coverage of Lollapalooza (held in Chicago's Grant Park). Chicago Innerview also increases its page count for the first time due to the highly successful response from the Lollapalooza issue. Over 200,000 people in attendance at both of the festivals, at which thousands of copies of Chicago Innerview are distributed on site.
June 2006: Chicago Innerview boosts its circulation up to 20,000 for its special June issue/festival guide dedicated to Intonation Music Fest, held in Chicago's Union Park June 24-25, at which thousands of magazines are distributed. The magazine also serves as a vendor at the festival with a booth displaying magazines and additional information on the publication. Chicago Innerview also hosts its Post-Intonation Bash at Beat Kitchen later that night with Denmark's The Figurines and Chicago's Skybox. Read a live review of the show here.
March 2006: Chicago Innerview announces a further boost of its circulation, to 17,000, due to rising demand amongst its readership while increasing distribution through the addition of new Chicago Innerview street newspaper bins placed at train stations and other key high-traffic areas of the city. Chicago Innerview also launches new podcast capabilities on its web site.
March 2006: Chicago Innerview announces new monthly Magazine Release Party series with Pabst Blue Ribbon and Life During Wartime DJs as part of the "Live and Local" music series. Chicago Innerview distributes magazines at the event, which features specials on Pabst Blue Ribbon, giveaways from Caroline Distribution and a trio of Chicago's top DJs. The event is held at Chicago club darkroom on the first Friday of each month.
March 2006: Chicago Innerview announces its founding membership in the new Indie Magazine Network with five other leading music publications in local markets throughout the United States, with a combined circulation of more than 125,000. Other member publications include The Deli (New York City), Playback:stl (St. Louis), The Marquee (Denver/Boulder), Slug (Salt Lake City) and Rift (Minneapolis.) The partnership allows advertisers the unique ability to target local markets on a national basis.
January 2006: Chicago Innerview expands into its third year with increased distribution and an expanded editorial format which includes general music features, special reports, a news column and staff recommendations for the month. The magazine also increases its presence online through the launch of myspace.com/chicagoinnerview
September 2005: Chicago Innerview participates in the 25th anniversary CMJ Music Marathon in New York, sponsoring a local showcase and covering the event with its New York correspondent. Thousands attend 4-day event.
August 2005: Chicago Innerview celebrates its 2-year anniversary with a special issue highlighting top shows of the past year. The magazine is also upgraded to allow for additional features such as staff-written previews of local events broken down chronologically each month.
July 2005: Chicago Innerview publishes a special issue dedicated to promoting Lollapalooza and Pitchfork Media's Intonation Music Fest. The magazine serves as the premier guide to both major events featuring staff-written bios on every act performing both events with photos, set times and editor's ratings. The magazine is promoted at both festivals and is well received as the essential source of information and guide to both 2-day events. A total of over 100,000 people attend both events.
July 2005: Chicago Innerview editor & publisher Jay Gentile is interviewed for a feature story in the Illinois Entertainer. The magazine is also mentioned in Rolling Stone.
June 2005: Chicago Innerview gets involved with promotion at the Taste of Randolph Street and MOB Fest annual events in Chicago. Thousands in attendance at each of the events.
May 2005: Chicago Innerview hosts "The Double Deuce" at Logan Square Auditorium in honor of the magazine's 22-month anniversary. Assassins, Dirty Things, Cinema Eye, Midstates and Life During Wartime DJs perform. Hundreds in attendance.
April 2005: Chicago Innerview partners with Abbey Pub for ticket giveaways each month as part of a new e-mail newsletter promotion.
March 2005 to June 2005: Chicago Innerview co-sponsors the monthly "War of the Independents" battle of the bands-style event at Abbey Pub with gojangle.com, Coors Light and Gibson. Hundreds attend each monthly event.
September 2004 to February 2005: Chicago Innerview co-sponsors monthly Twangoff battle-of-the-bands event at Chicago's Martyrs' along with Gibson Guitars and Goose Island Brew Pub. Hundreds attend each event.
December 2004: Chicago Innerview and Hostage Radio host "Christmas Bonanza" holiday party at Chicago's Double Door. River Oaks Band, Vessel and several other local bands perform. Hundreds in attendance.
November to December 2004: Chicago Innerview hosts promotion in magazine with Matador Records in which tickets are given away to the Guided By Voices New Year's Eve show at Chicago's Metro in exchange for participation in the magazine reader's survey. Hundreds participate.
October 2004 to March 2005: Chicago Innerview teams up with Live 365, the nation's largest Internet radio provider, to feature a Chicago Innerview audio commercial airing on the Live 365 Web network, reaching over one million listeners.
September 2004: Chicago Innerview co-sponsors MUPAW Fest (Music for Political Awareness) with MTV's Rock the Vote. The Katie Todd Band, Duenow, Genral Patton and others perform. The event also features booths to register young people to vote along with political speeches from representatives of the Kerry campaign, Iraqi war veterans and Chicago Innerview editor&publisher Jay Gentile. Hundreds in attendance.
September 2004: Chicago Innerview announces complete redesign of magazine, upgraded paper stock and circulation increase to 15,000 copies per month due to increased reader demand. Chicago Innerview Web site also breaks 200,000 monthly hits and e-mail newsletter subscriber list tops 1,500 people.
August 2004: Chicago Innerview celebrates 1-year anniversary by co-hosting annual Garfield Park Art Market in Chicago's Garfield Park. Rusted Root's Michael Glabicki, Ashwah Greggori and several others perform over 2-day period. Event also features Chicago Innerview t-shirts, fine art, independent film, and a fashion show. Hundreds in attendance.
July 2004: Chicago Innerview editor & publisher Jay Gentile and marketing director Flavio Gentile are interviewed on the set of Chicago's Hostage Radio, during which time the magazine and its events are discussed. Thousands tune in.
June 2004: Chicago Innerview promotes magazine at Chicago Tribune's Printers Row Book Fair, offering live music and booze at local Printer's Row Pharmacy. Thousands in attendance over 2-day fair.
June 2004: Chicago Innerview co-sponsors annual Chicago MOBFest, featuring 4 days of performances at several local venues as well as a series of music industry panels. Representatives from major labels including Warner Brothers, Virgin, Columbia, Island Def Jam, Sire, and Capitol Records attend. Hundreds in attendance.
May 2004: Chicago Innerview hosts 10-Month Anniversary party at Chicago's AliveOne. Lubriphonic, Indignant, Twisted Jazz, and DJ Spencer Lokken perform. Raffle held giving away certificate for music at Record Breakers. Hundreds in attendance.
April 2004: Chicago Innerview editor & publisher Jay Gentile and marketing director Flavio Gentile are interviewed on the set of DDMI Studios' "The Music Show" in Chicago, reaching 3 million Chicago metropolitan area viewers.
January 2004: Chicago Innerview co-sponsors the return of the Wu-Tang Clan at Chicago's Metro, featuring Wu-Tang Clan on the cover of the magazine. Hundreds in attendance.
November 2003: Chicago Innerview launches nationally acclaimed Web site. Party and promotion held at Chicago's AliveOne. Frank Bang's Secret Stash performs. Hundreds in attendance.
August 2003: Chicago Innerview launches with 10,000 copies, featuring Ziggy Marley on the cover. The Chicago Journal publishes a feature article on the magazine. Chicago Innerview is promoted at Chicago's annual 3-day Goose Island Fest. Sonic Youth, The Psychedelic Furs, Guided By Voices, Bob Mould, Pharcyde, Tortoise, Medeski Martin & Wood and others perform. Thousands in attendance.
